A suspect is behind bars in connection with a deadly shooting at a south Birmingham apartment complex in September.
Birmingham police on Friday announced the arrest of 19-year-old Lavell Onterria Burton. He is charged with capital murder in the shooting death of Stephen Lawrence Scott Jr., who was also 19.
Burton is also charged with attempted murder, first-degree robbery and discharging a gun into an occupied vehicle.
Scott was killed Sept. 20 at Adona Apartments on Aspen Run off Green Springs Highway.
It was just before 10 p.m. that Tuesday when Birmingham police received numerous 911 calls about the shooting. When they arrived, they found a wrecked vehicle in the entryway parking lot.

Inside the vehicle, they found Scott unresponsive. Investigators determined he had been shot.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead on the scene at 10:18 p.m.
Police then found a second victim. He was taken to an area hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said at the time it appeared the shooting started in a breezeway where investigators found multiple shell casings. “Based on the amount of rounds fired, we believe we may have more than one shooter,’’ he said.
He said investigators believed the victims were targeted.
Multiple vehicles and apartment units in the complex sustained damage from the gunfire.
Burton was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 5:36 p.m. Thursday. He is being held without bond for the capital murder charge. His bonds total $180,000 in the other charges.
Anyone with additional information is asked to call Birmingham homicide detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
