A Birmingham school was put on lockdown briefly Thursday when a gunshot victim stumbled in the lobby.
It turns out the man had been shot several days ago and had just left the hospital against medical advice. Sgt. Monica Law said the situation was quickly resolved and no one at Arrington Medical School was ever in danger.
The first call when out at 8:21 a.m. and officers responded to the school on Jefferson Avenue.
Police learned the man, who has cognitive issues, had previously been shot was being treated at Princeton Baptist Medical Center.
He left the hospital Thursday morning and got on a bus. However, Law said, the man got off the bus at the wrong stop and that’s when he showed up in the lobby of the school.
School administrators were familiar with the man, who is from the area. They got him out of the school and off the property.
First responders located the victim a short distance away. Law said she hoped the victim would return to the hospital to get proper care.
