An afternoon shooting in Birmingham left one person dead.
At least 20 shots rang out in the 4500 block of Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard just before 2 p.m. When police arrived on the scene, they found a male has sustained gunshot injuries.
The victim was taken by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police put up crime scene tape around the parking lot of 10th Avenue Deli, and the apartment complex across the street. Multiple shell casings were marked as evidence in front of the apartment building.
Birmingham police are expected to release additional information shortly.
The victim is the city’s 127th homicide this year. Of those, seven have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.
In all of Jefferson County, there have been 171 homicides, including the 127 in Birmingham.
