The Crown Season 5 Plot
The early to mid-1990s, a particularly difficult period in royal history, will be the subject of The Crown season 5. Maggie Thatcher was fired from Downing Street in the season 4 finale, but The Crown won’t take up just where it left off in 1990.
The fifth season is rumored to start in 1992—the year the Queen dubbed her “annus horribilis”—and last for five years, culminating with the passing of Princess Diana in 1997. Netflix hasn’t yet officially acknowledged any of this, but the casting of Bertie Carvel as Tony Blair, who took office in 1997, gives the rumors some credence.
The relationship between the Queen and Charles is expected to continue to worsen as he pursues his romance with Camilla and divorces Diana if The Crown is set between 1992 and 1997. The disgraced Prince Andrew is also anticipated to play a key role in the forthcoming season because this was the time of his divorce from Sarah Ferguson.
At some point, the infamous Martin Bashir interview with Diana on Panorama will also be discussed. But all is not lost for The Firm; perhaps we will also see the Golden Wedding Anniversary of the Queen, which took place in 1997.

Will The Crown Get a season 6?
It’s true that The Crown was initially intended to have five seasons, but according to a report in Deadline, the show’s creator, Peter Morgan, determined that a sixth season was necessary to properly depict the Royal Family.
“As we started to discuss the storylines for series 5,” Morgan said. “It soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story, we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons. To be clear, Series 6 will not bring us any closer to the present day — it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.”
