The Crown Season 5 Plot

The early to mid-1990s, a particularly difficult period in royal history, will be the subject of The Crown season 5. Maggie Thatcher was fired from Downing Street in the season 4 finale, but The Crown won’t take up just where it left off in 1990.

The fifth season is rumored to start in 1992—the year the Queen dubbed her “annus horribilis”—and last for five years, culminating with the passing of Princess Diana in 1997. Netflix hasn’t yet officially acknowledged any of this, but the casting of Bertie Carvel as Tony Blair, who took office in 1997, gives the rumors some credence.

The relationship between the Queen and Charles is expected to continue to worsen as he pursues his romance with Camilla and divorces Diana if The Crown is set between 1992 and 1997. The disgraced Prince Andrew is also anticipated to play a key role in the forthcoming season because this was the time of his divorce from Sarah Ferguson.

At some point, the infamous Martin Bashir interview with Diana on Panorama will also be discussed. But all is not lost for The Firm; perhaps we will also see the Golden Wedding Anniversary of the Queen, which took place in 1997.

The Crown season 5 Trailer

A trailer for The Crown season 5 is now available. The future media battle between Princess Diana and Prince Charles is also hinted to, as is the Queen’s response to her ‘annus horribilis’.

What else would you expect from such an exciting drama? since it appears that the Royal Family’s riches may be declining. It’s the first substantial opportunity for viewers to observe the new cast in action. You may judge for yourself if they’ve upheld the standards set by their predecessors.

The Crown season 5 Cast

Every two seasons, The Crown renews and changes its cast to represent the years that have passed. So, it’s time to say goodbye to the likes of Olivia Colman, Tobias Menzies, and Helena Bonham Carter and welcome the fresh faces.

The Queen’s pricey shoes will be filled by Imelda Staunton, who you undoubtedly recognise as the villain Umbridge from the Harry Potter series. The “People’s Princess” Diana will be portrayed by Elizabeth Debicki, while Game of Thrones actor Jonathan Pryce will play Phillip Elizabeth.

the cast of The Crown season 5 is:

  • Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II
  • Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip

  • Jonny Lee Miller as John Major
  • Dominic West as Prince Charles
  • Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana
  • Marcia Warren as The Queen Mother
  • Olivia Williams as Camilla Parker Bowles
  • Claudia Harrison as Princess Anne
  • James Murray as Prince Andrew
  • Emma Laird Craig as Sarah Ferguson
  • Sam Woolf as Prince Edward
  • Khalid Abdalla as Dodi Fayed
  • Bertie Carvel as Tony Blair, Prime Minister
  • Prasanna Puwanarajah as Martin Bashir
  • Timothy Dalton as Peter Townsend

Will The Crown Get a season 6?

It’s true that The Crown was initially intended to have five seasons, but according to a report in Deadline, the show’s creator, Peter Morgan, determined that a sixth season was necessary to properly depict the Royal Family.

“As we started to discuss the storylines for series 5,” Morgan said. “It soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story, we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons. To be clear, Series 6 will not bring us any closer to the present day — it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.”

The Crown Season 5 Release Date

The official release date for The Crown season 5 has been disclosed by Netflix. The programme will return to television on November 9, 2022. This serves as more proof that The Crown season 5 won’t be postponed in light of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing.
