A 46-year-old man has been convicted in a deadly 2020 shooting outside a Birmingham club.
A Jefferson County jury Thursday found Lathedrick Miles guilty of murder in the slaying of 21-year-old Travars Wages.
Wages was found shot outside the Wages Event Center at 2726 Pearson Ave. Southwest around 2:41 a.m. on Jan. 30, 2020.
He was taken to UAB Hospital, where he died of his injuries Feb. 12, 2020. Police reclassified the incident as a homicide after Wages’ death.
Authorities said there was an altercation with shots fired and Wages was struck. The 21-year-old victim had just walked outside when he was shot.
The trial began Monday in the courtroom of Circuit Judge Michael Street.
Deputy District Attorneys Charissa Henrich and Blake Owens prosecuted the case. Miles was represented by the Jefferson County Public Defender Office.
Miles had been out of jail on $100,000 bond since his 2020 arrest. He was booked back into the Jefferson County Jail Monday after he was transferred there from the Birmingham City Jail where he was being held on an unrelated charge.
A sentencing date was not yet available.
