Following Justice League’s underwhelming response, Aquaman’s DCEU premiere in 2018 was met with wildly unexpected success, propelling the character to new heights of popularity. With Jason Momoa playing Arthur Curry, it’s safe to assume that no one is laughing about Aquaman talking to fish. He would ultimately throw a shark at you.
The box office success of the action film, which brought in $1.148 million, made a sequel all but certain. Today, Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is finally in production, and James Wan is once again serving as director. In the first movie, Wan demonstrated his ability to handle all the underwater mayhem. Julie Andrews provided the voice for a massive sea creature that protects Aquaman’s comic book-inspired attire, and did we also mention the octopus playing the drums?
This time, hopefully, Wan will add a breakdancing crab and a seahorse playing an electric guitar. Perhaps they could start a band? But we’ve completely veered off subject. Fortunately, owing to the director, the actors, and DC FanDome 2021, we already know a lot about the superhero movie sequel. So grab your golden trident and let’s explore what is known so far regarding the release date for Aquaman 2.

Aquaman 2 Plot
It’s unclear why Arthur is looking for (yet another) secret place linked to Atlantis, but according to Wan, it will expand the DCEU even further. The sequel’s hero would “explore so many other realms,” the filmmaker assured the DC FanDome crowd.
Of course, it won’t just be Aquaman taking in the sights for two hours. As the Black Manta and Orm/Ocean Master, respectively, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Patrick Wilson will return.
David Hyde/Black Manta was last seen promising to exact retribution on Momoa’s hero for killing his father and outdueling him in combat. But he also joins forces with Dr. Stephen Shin, an authority on Atlantis. Aquaman should be careful behind him.

Aquaman 2 Behind-The-Scenes
Fans may get a fair preview of what to anticipate from The Lost Kingdom in a video that the cast and crew presented at DC FanDome 2021. The main cast is shown filming multiple action scenes, in addition to a tonne of concept art from the movie.
The action seems to indicate that Orm and Arthur are working together, or are at the very least fleeing something or someone together. At least Patrick Wilson will be back to portray the bad guy, and it will be intriguing to watch how he changes from the ruthless monster from the previous movie.
Black Manta is the next opponent. Wow. The dome-headed villain’s appearance in the original Aquaman movie straddled a narrow line between a comic-accurate style and a practical, real-world suit; however, the sequel dives straight into his bizarre appearance. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is seen with a recognisable silver helmet with brilliant red eyes in addition to a skin-tight black muscular suit. Long-time Aquaman admirers will undoubtedly be pleased.
Aquaman 2 Cast
Of course, Jason Momoa will return in the lead role as the movie’s titular hero, but this time he’ll wear a different outfit. Even though the orange and green style is well-known, the actor shared a photo of the sequel’s stylish dark blue and silver attire on Instagram.
The new appearance has several aesthetic similarities to the comic’s stealth suit, however, it is still unclear why the character requires a covert outfit.
Expect to see some fairly major stunts in the sequel since the star just revealed to Ellen Degeneres that he requires surgery as a result of injuries he incurred during shooting. Temuera Morrison, who previously played Jango and Boba Fett, is returning to the role of Arthur’s father; presumably, this time around, he receives the royal treatment.
Amber Heard is also scheduled to make a comeback as Mera of Xebel, despite Warner Bros. facing criticism following the actress’ most recent legal disputes with her ex-husband, Johnny Depp.
Many fans demanded that Heard be taken out of her lead part in The Lost Kingdom because the Fantastic Beasts actor left his role as the evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald. The actress will still appear in the sequel, despite reports that her screentime has been drastically reduced since the company has stood by her.
King Nereus of Xebel, who is also being played by Dolph Lundgren, is Mera’s father. In a recent Instagram post, Dolph announced that filming was complete.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Patrick Wilson will also return as Black Manta and Ocean Master.
Randall Park is also supporting the evil side. Even on its trek to The Lost Kingdom, the sequel will have brand-new characters like Jani Zhao’s Stingray and Indya Moore’s Karshon, a massive tiger shark.
Aquaman 2 Release Date
On December 25, 2023, Arthur Curry returns to the big screen in Aquaman 2. One of the rare movies where the global pandemic didn’t have a significant influence was the sequel.
The main reason for this is that James Wan already committed to making Malignant in 2019, and he wanted to concentrate on that film before rejoining the DC Extended Universe.
