On Fox’s beloved teen musical series Glee, Kurt and Rachel were the best of friends — but the same can’t be said for actors Chris Colfer and Lea Michele in real life.
Colfer was a guest on SiriusXM’s The Michelle Collins Show on Tuesday when the host asked if he’d like to join her for a night out to catch his former Glee co-star in Funny Girl, which she’s currently starring in on Broadway.
“Oh, no, are you seeing Funny Girl?” Colfer responded. “Oh. My day suddenly just got so full.”
After Colfer said he saw the musical Six and it was amazing, Collins asked if he had any interest in seeing Funny Girl at all.
“No, I can be triggered at home,” Colfer responded.
Did it just get shady in here?!
After Glee ended, several of Michele’s costars on the show opened up about her treatment of them and the toxic work environment on set. Late actress Naya Rivera, who played the lesbian character Santana Lopez, wrote about Michele in her memoir Sorry Not Sorry.
“I think Rachel — erm, I mean Lea — didn’t like sharing the spotlight,” Rivera wrote. “She had a hard time separating work from our outside friendship, whereas it was a lot easier for me … Lea was a lot more sensitive, though, and sometimes it seemed like she blamed me for anything and everything that went wrong.”
Two years ago, Samantha Ware, who was a late-season addition to the show, also opened up about how Michele treated her on set. Cast members Amber Riley and Alex Newell showed their support for Ware at the time.
Colfer isn’t the only Glee alum to shade Michele like this recently. Entertainment Weekly also spoke to former Glee stars Jenna Ushkowitz and Kevin McHale, who were on RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race.
“I haven’t talked to her,” McHale said when asked if he was going to go see Michele’s play. “We haven’t talked in quite a while. Jenna and I talk every day, but I haven’t spoken to her in a long time. So I haven’t talked to her about Funny Girl.”
“If I’m in New York, I will go see it,” Ushkowitz offered. “Broadway is home for me, and I’m sad that I missed Jane.” Another Glee star, Jane Lynch, was playing Fanny Brice’s mother in the musical before Michele joined.
When Ushkowitz was asked if she reached out to Michele to congratulate her, she replied, “I have not. I will leave it at that.”
